Michael Douglas reveals secret to his marriage with Catherine Zeta Jones

Michael Douglas and Catherine
Zeta-Jones started going out together in the late
Nineties many doubted it would last, primarily
because of the 25-year age gap between them.
But having now been married for 15 years, Michael
insists the secret to their longevity is not taking
things too seriously.
“If I forget a name or a date, she will look me in
the eye and I’ll say, ‘Yes dear, I know’.
“We joke all the time about when I reach my 80s
and she’s wheeling me around and I’m saying
‘Whoa, where are we going?’ And she will say
‘Cartier darling, Cartier. It’s your favourite store’.
“Remember, to keep a sense of humour about
these things,” the 72-yer-old tells Jonathan Ross,
pictured together, during a talk at London’s
Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
Although Michael still counts his lucky stars that
he’s ended up with Catherine, 47, he reckons both
being actors helps: “She has a wonderful warm
Welsh heart, has a great work ethic and is in the
same occupation as me.

Tolu Odukoya drops new single “My Heart”

Tolu Odukoya-Ijogun, daughter of
late renowned preacher, Paster Bimbo Odukoya,
today, dropped a new single titled My Heart .
According to Tolu, who recently got ordained as a
pastor, My Heart is a simple song of gratitude.
“When I think about all God has done for me,
everything I’ve been through, how He has
remained faithful, I think about how I can tell Him
how grateful I am. How can I give back in return.
The human way of showing gratitude is doing
something; and I thought giving him my heart
would do it. My heart is the most important part of
me as a human being. If I can give God that; that
shows how much I’m thankful for all that he’s
done,” she said.
Married with two children, Tolu revealed that aside
singing, she’s very passionate about God,
relationships, marriages and family.
Her first musical outing was in 2011 in a duet with
Onyeka Onwenu titled Gifted and Proud which she
did for her later mother’s foundation.
“I’ve always been singing. My mum actually
prayed when she was pregnant with me that I
would be a singer. So I’ve been singing in church
for a very long time, so I think this would be the
best time to dab into my ministry because I do see
music as my ministry,” she said.
“When I sing or I worship, I realise that I touch
people and I turn people back to God. It’s my own
way of ministering. I might not be the most
eloquent person at preaching the word, but I
believe when I sing, I get people to see God and
feel God.”

Hon. Susan Matsunga wept profusely after allegeding
that a police officer fondled her breasts and buttock
A female legislator shocked many last week Wednesday
after she wept uncontrollably in parliament alleging that
a police officer had fondled her breasts and buttocks.
The shocking revelation brought business in the
Zimbabwean Assembly to a halt as the legislator under
Proportional Representation, Susan Matsunga narrated
how she had been allegedly sexually harassed by a
police officer.
“Handisi h..e ini asi ndabatwa zamu ne g..o nemapurisa.
Chokwadi here kundibata zamu ini,” said Hon Matsunga
before she wept uncontrollably.
According to H-metro , while responding to the Hon
Matsunga’s report, Deputy Speaker Honourable Mabel
Chinomona, said they would use video footages to
investigate the allegations of s*xual harassment by
police on the legislator.
“I have heard you, since we have video footages from
the time police got into these premises, we will use the
same videos to investigate the alleged s*xual
harassment,” she said.

Also, another legislator, Hon Lwazi Sibanda further
alleged that a police officer had put his hand in her skirt,
tearing her under garment before she went to show the
Deputy Speaker the torn under garment.
The incident took place in August after police men
where called to the House to evict Budiriro legislator,
Machingauta Costa, for dressing which was deemed
unfit for Parliamentary business.
The police were called in after Hon Machingauta had
resisted the order by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament
who had asked sergeant-at-arms to evict him.

Suicide Bomber Shot Dead While Trying to Enter IDP Camp in Maiduguri (Photo)

The Suicide bomber was Shot
Soldiers in Maiduguri have shot dead a suspected Boko
Haram suicide bomber.
Officials said the suspect was shot dead after he was
spotted trying to creep into the same IDP camp that
nearly came under attack by a female suicide bomber
who killed herself and five others on Saturday morning.
The suicide bomber was shot dead by vigilant soldiers
who opened fire on him causing one of the two bombs
around his body to go off.
Saturday and Sunday’s incidents appear to indicate that
the insurgents have made internally displaced persons,
IDP, camps a major point of target.
According to Premium Times, a top leader of the
Civilian-JTF, Alhaji Dan-Batta, revealed on phone that
“the male suicide bomber was seen loitering around the
back perimeter fence of Bakassi camp at about 9 a.m. He
was shot down before he could advance closer to the
camp. One of the bombs he was carrying exploded, but
another is still strapped on his body did not explode.
The anti-bomb squad operatives are trying to defuse
that one”.
No other person was reported killed or injured from the
explosion.
The incident did not cause any panic in the Borno
capital as many residents were seen going about their
daily businesses.
Sunday’s blast came as the fifth in the series of bomb
attacks around Maiduguri by the Boko Haram in the last
three weeks.
Since the release of 21 of the abducted Chibok
schoolgirls three weeks ago, Boko Haram insurgents
have scaled up their hostility mainly using improvised
explosives.
The federal government had said it will be going into
another round of negotiations with the insurgents with
a view to securing the release of more of the girls.
Despite that, the Boko Haram have continued with their
terror attacks.
Neither the military nor the police have issued any
statement on Sunday’s incident at the time of filing this
report.

Shocking Story : How I Bought Two Human Heads for N10,000 - Herbalist Makes Shocking Confession

The Suspects

Policemen from the Oyo State Police Command have
arrested t hree persons in possession of two human
skulls at a hideout in Ogbomoso.
Samuel Adegbuyi, t he state Commissioner of Police,
revealed that the arrest was made after the police
received information from members of the public, who
had raised the alarm that the suspects were dealing in
human parts.
According to The Punch, one of the skulls was
discovered to have had what looked like a deep machete
cut at its temple, leaving the police to suspect that the
person the head belonged to might have been
gruesomely killed.
Ramoni Akeem, 41, Azeez Ojelade, 36, and Salimon
Salami, 40, were the suspects arrested by the police.
Akeem said he paid N10, 000 for the skulls and that
Salami was the vendor.
Akeem said, “I am a herbalist and I heal people with
herbs. I have never used body parts for rituals. One day,
a friend came to me and said his friend discovered two
corpses on a land where he had wanted to cut trees. He
asked if I knew what body parts could be used for. I told
him that I did not know anything about charms prepared
with body parts.
“One of our friends, Saheed Ifa, who is a senior
herbalist, heard about it and said he could make use of
the skulls to prepare charms. When the skulls were
produced, the man who brought them demanded for
N10, 000. I paid him in four instalments. But that is all I
know about the skulls. Ifa has travelled to Lagos. I
don’t know where he lives in Lagos.”
Salami, who claimed to have discovered the corpses,
denied any wrongdoing.
He said, “I was asked to cut some trees on a large piece
of land but when I got there, I discovered two corpses
and I told a friend that I was afraid to work on the land
because someone killed two people there. He said I
should continue with my work while he looked for what
to do with the corpses. When he got a buyer, he
contacted me and I went back to the bush and
dismembered the heads from the bodies,” he said.

Nigerian television and film actor,
model and events compere, Sam Ajibola, popularly
referred to as Spiff of The Johnson sitcom, has
dispelled the rumour describing him as an
imbecile.
Ajibola who plays the role of an imbecile in the
sitcom disclosed to newsmen that he plays the
part so well that some people actually believe that
he is a retard.
“Well, that is why I am talking for people to know
that my character is different from who I am in real
life. I am definitely not an imbecile in real life, I am
actually a brilliant person because it takes a whole
lot of brilliance to clone such a character that will
be so stupid and make people laugh. I meet
people that I don’t really say things to and they
are already laughing. With my conversation with
you, you will see that I am okay and I am a very
brilliant person,” he said.
He further said that his role in ‘The Johnson’ has
affected his life positively. Ajibola said that it
gladdens his heart when he meets people and
they tell him that he makes them laugh daily.
Ajibola said, “It has affected my life very
positively. I would like to tell you that because the
country is going through some really difficult
times, Nigerians should be relieved of their stress.
I meet people on a daily basis and they say I am
the reason they watch movies. They say any time
they go through the day’s stress and struggle,
they just want to sit down and when they watch
me, they relax, laugh and it takes away the stress
of a whole day. I feel some sort of happiness,
satisfaction, fulfilment that on a daily basis, I
make people happy.”

If you can' t satisfy me in bed , I will dump you immediately ' Faithfulness Kennedy

Faithfulness Kennedy, the current Miss Tourism
Nigeria has everything a woman needs to make it in
any chosen field of her choice. Tall, beautiful and
intelligent, the undergraduate of University of
Portharcourt already has her path defined and she’s
ready to go the distance, regardless of what life
may throw her way.
In a chat with Potpourri, the beauty queen admits to
being a risk taker but when it comes to the matters
of the heart, she applies the brakes wherever
possible.

Faithfulness kennedy
When asked about her opinion on premarital sex,
the Rivers State-born beauty didn’t shroud her
feeling in any pretense as she laid it on the line
that she cannot live with a man who cannot satisfy
her in bed.
“Sex is healthy for a relationship; it obviously
builds a connection between the partners, it builds
a kind of bond and trust,” she observes with a calm
that can only come from somebody who is very sure
of herself.
“In this our modern world everybody’s eye is
shining, imagine dating for two years without sex
(do u really love me?) Okay, and we finally get
married and then on our honeymoon night when we
are supposed to go gaga you’re now acting like a
donkey, I will divorce you immediately! I’m very
serious, because at that point the love has dropped.
I am telling you this because of some people that
will pretend and say they will just stay for staying
sake and have sex partners outside; my dear,
prevention is better than cure. If we are in a
relationship and you can’t satisfy me well in bed,
you are a donkey, I’ll leave you, I don’t care if you
are a billionaire, just know if I stay I’m staying
because of your money,” she added with a note of
finality that comes from someone who knows what
she’s talking about.

Rapper Coolio spared jail in guilty plea to Los Angeles gun charge

. Grammy-winning rapper
Coolio pleaded guilty on Wednesday to unlawful
firearm possession for carrying a loaded pistol in a
backpack into Los Angeles International Airport
last month and was sentenced to three years of
probation, prosecutors said.
The 53-year-old recording star, whose legal name
is Artis Leon Ivey, was also ordered to perform 45
days of community service under a negotiated plea
deal sparing him from prison, according to a
spokesman for the Los Angeles County District
Attorney’s Office.
The rap artist was charged earlier this month with
illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted
felon, an offense that carries a penalty of up to
three years in prison.
At his hearing in Los Angeles County Superior
Court on Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to the
lesser offense of carrying a concealed weapon.

Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for prosecutors,
said the rapper could return to court in a year to
have his latest felony conviction reduced to a
misdemeanor, provided he fulfills his community
service obligation by then and stays out of trouble
with the law.
He already had two prior felony convictions on his
record, from 2001 for carrying a concealed weapon
in a vehicle and in 2009 for possession of cocaine.
The judge told Coolio on Wednesday that if he
were found to be in possession of even a single
bullet during the next three years, he would end
up back in court facing jail time for violating his
probation.
The rap star sounded a note of contrition in
remarks to reporters after the hearing, but said his
latest brush with the law resulted from a
“mistake.”
“It was a misunderstanding,” he said. “I do not
condone the use of firearms, legal or illegal.
Thanks to the court and the attorneys handing
this for me so I can still do the work that I do.”
According to police who arrested Coolio at the
airport on Sept. 17, a stolen, loaded handgun was
discovered in his backpack on the X-ray
screening belt as his entourage was going through
security to board a flight en route to a concert.
Coolio, a Los Angeles-area native, is perhaps best
known for this 1995 Grammy Award-winning hit
“Gangsta’s Paradise,” the No. 1 U.S. chart-topper
that year and one of the best-selling singles of all
time.

One of the razed classrooms
Some students of the Isale - Oyo Community High
School , Oyo town, have gone on rampage , setting their
own classrooms on fire over mass failure in their
examination.
According to The Punch , the aggrieved students
stormed the school premises on Thursday morning
charting solidarity songs.
They were said to have gone haywire afterwards , set
fire to blocks of classrooms and fled the premises. The
school authorities were said to have alerted men of the
Oyo State Fire Service, who responded swiftly to put
out the fire .
Policemen were deployed in the school to restore
peace but none of the students had been arrested as
of the time of filing this report .
The disturbance , observers noted , marked the worst
phase of the unrest that began days ago over mass
failure in exams .
The school compound was deserted as teachers and
other students reportedly fled for fear of being harmed.
Punch reported further that there had been lingering
crises since Monday in some secondary schools in the
state following mass failure in the last promotion
examinations.
The Oyo State Government has set a new promotion
policy which states that only students with 50 per cent
in Mathematics and English language will transit to the
next class .
Students of Anglican Secondary School in Oyo
reportedly unleashed mayhem on their teachers and
destroyed billboards bearing Governor Abiola Ajimobi ’ s
picture .
The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Prof . Banji
Olowofela , lamented poor performance of pupils in
external examinations, saying public schools could no
longer continue to breed substandard pupils.
“ What government says is that there is no automatic
promotion again . Our external examinations from1999
till date have been abysmally poor . If we push them to
the outside world, we are not helping them.
“ We are trying to give them the opportunity to
rediscover themselves . The school has been closed
indefinitely, ”he added.

Bauchi Parents allegedly withdraw daughters from school to generate marriage capital

Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs,
Bauchi House of Assembly, Maryam Begel, said
female students in some schools in the state were
being withdrawn to engage in menial jobs to
generate capital for their marriage.
Begel told newsmen in Bauchi on Wednesday that
an interactive session she had with 60 secondary
schoolgirls in the state revealed such practice.
Her words: “I had an interactive session with 60
girls of a particular tertiary school in Bauchi state
and what I gathered from them was shocking.
“They complained that some parents were in the
habit of withdrawing their daughters from school
when they reach JSS two or three.
“They said such parents initiate their daughters
into engaging in menial jobs to generate funds
that would be used in buying items preparatory to
their marriage.
“The girls were so disturbed and were lamenting
that a lot of their colleagues have had their
education either temporarily suspended, or
completely terminated, on such grounds,” said
Begel, who once served as a Child Protection
Officer with an international non-governmental
organization, ‘Save the Children’ (UK).
The lawmaker lamented that such action by
parents was inimical to the development of the
Girl-Child at a time campaign was being
intensified to encourage the education of female
children.

expressed disappointment over what it described
as gross marginalisation of the state by the Niger
Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

He therefore called on the Federal Government to
do something urgently to give the state a sense of

Kaffy responds to controversies surrounding her verbal attack against disrespectful artistes

On Wednesday, a lot of of people
were surprised to see Dance entrepreneur, Kaffy,
lash out at Davido and other artistes who
allegedly disrespect dancers in Nigeria. In an
explosive video lash out, Kaffy came for the music
artiste, stating that it was disrespectful of him to
dismiss contracted dancers at the very last
minute. According to her, this happened at the
One Africa Music Fest in the U.S in July and
another similar issue also came up before the 3
thrones concert in Lagos over the weekend.
However, it appears her opinion on what went
down during the second concert in Lagos was
misconstrued. Some media outlets went on to
report that the choreographer for Davido’s
performance at the 3 thrones concert debunked
Kaffy’s claim, saying although he did not initially
want dancers for all his performances, the
organizers insisted and he agreed.

Ex-Bauchi Governor, Isa Yuguda, Multi-million Naira Mansion Seized by EFCC

Former Bauchi State Governor's house reportedly seized
by the EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has
reportedly seized houses multi-million naira house
belonging to former Bauchi state Governor, Isa Yuguda
in Bauchi state.
This was revealed by IG Wala on his Facebook page as
he shared the photos and wrote:

"The likes of Isa Yuguda wrecked their states and
erected monumental edifice that are similar to ancient
palaces. Yuguda left Bauchi State with a debt profile of
N57,652,771,752.74 and yet walking freely with his head
high feeling like a king. Shamefully, the mansions built
from the stolen loots are now being seized by EFCC.
"As you can see from the photos, the Bauchi mansion is
under the custody of EFCC and all the rest of the houses
in Abuja, Kano and other places are about to be
confiscated and he is likely going to end in jail. What a
shameful end!
"It was speculated that the silence coming from
Newspapers is as a result of his partnership with some
of the prominent media houses.

UPDATE AT 5:30pm.

"REPORT REACHING US CONFIRMED THAT YUGUDA SOLD
HIS MANSION IN KANO JUST YESTERDAY. BUT, CITIZENS
ARE SUSPICIOUS OF THE TRANSACTION TO BE A FAKE
ARRANGEMENT TO DISTRACT EFCC FOR INVESTIGATING
HIM.
"NEVERTHELESS, NO MATTER THE ARRANGEMENT,
THERE MUST BE EVIDENCE OF CHNAGE OF OWNERSHIP,.
THE WORST IS THAT IF THE TRANSACTION WAS DONE IN
RAW CASH.
"AS FOR THE BAUCHI MANSION, YUGUDA CLAIMED THAT
HE COLLECTED LOAN FROM THE BANK AND BUILT THE
HOUSE! #Funny!"

Police Arraign Man For Detaining Girl For Sexual Purpose

The police on Friday arraigned a middle-aged man,
Dominic Abutu, in a Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’
Court in Abuja for unlawfully detaining a 20-year-
old girl for sexual purpose.
Abutu of Karimo, Abuja, was arraigned on two
charges of unlawful detention and rape, which he
pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, John Simon, said the matter was
reported by Jennifer Buba at the Wuse Police
Station on Oct. 20.
Simon said the complainant received a call from her
niece stating that she was held hostage by the
defendant at his house.
He said the victim was staying at Mpape with her
Aunt before the defendant got her a job as a
housemaid in Maitama.
The prosecutor said after some days, the victim
called the defendant and complained that she didn’t
like the place she was working.
Simon said the defendant asked her to come to his
house so that he could take her to another house
to work.
He said since then the defendant unlawfully
detained the victim against her will to have sexual
intercourse with her.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened
sections 273 and 275 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the
charges.
The Senior Magistrate, Fatima Bukar, granted bail to
the defendant in the sum of N200, 000 with a surety
in like sum.
Bukar said the surety must reside within the
jurisdiction of the court, and adjourned the matter
till Nov. 14 for hearing.

Full list of security agents, others arrested for collaborating with Boko Haram.

PREMIUM TIMES has obtained an exclusive list of 30
people arrested by the Nigerian military for allegedly
helping the Boko Haram to sell rustled cows.
The arrested people include at least four serving
soldiers, two police officers, and some members of the
civilian-JTF
The Theatre Commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole,
Lucky Irabor, had confirmed the arrest of the 30 people
at a press conference in Maiduguri on Wednesday.
According to General Irabor, “those who have been
aiding and abetting Boko Haram by way of encouraging
cattle rustling ; so far we have arrested 30 of them, many
are civilians and we have among them four soldiers and
two policemen. They are being investigated and the
outcome of the investigation will be brought to your
notice.”
What Mr. Irabor, a major general, did not say was that
the Boko Haram rustled the cows in the territory they
still hold and sneaked them into Maiduguri, the Borno
capital, to sell and buy other goods.
The military has since suspected that the insurgents are
able to do this and raise fund for their cause based on
the active connivance of security operatives and
relevant civilians. Subsequent investigation led to the
arrest of the 30 people.
The four soldiers arrested include Captain A. A.
Hussaini, the operations officer of 195 Battalion in
charge of Mafa Local Government Area where Boko
Haram still control some areas. The council is a major
route into Maiduguri from the North and East.
Another suspect is Lieutenant I. H. Irro, a liaison with
152 Task Force battalion. The other two junior officers
are Staff Sergeant Alexander Chiegwe, the guard
commander of the main check point from Mafa into
Maiduguri, and Lance Corporal Yakpon Dona.
The policemen arrested are Usman Mohammed and
Stephen Odoh.
The suspects also include three members of the
Civilian-JTF. They are Babakkura Ali, chairman of
Kasuwan Shanu branch; Bashir Abbas, the chairman of
Sector 2 and Modu 2Star, a member from Mafa town.
The arrested civilians include members of the Livestock
Traders Association, some herdsmen and a
representative of the Shehu of Borno.
All the suspects are accused of being involved in castle
rustling.
Top members of the Civilian-JTF who spoke to
PREMIUM TIMES confirmed the arrest of their colleagues.
They, however, said they do not have the full details of
their arrest.
In the past year, kidnapping and cattle rustling have
become another major security threat, aside Boko Haram
insurgency which the Nigerian Army has been tackling.
Nearly a hundred kidnappers and cattle rustlers were
either killed in shootouts or arrested by soldiers. Over a
thousand cows rustled from herdsmen were also
recovered.
Fulani herdsmen, accused of attacking communities
using assault rifles, have complained that some of them
resort to using guns like AK47 to defend themselves
because cattle rustlers use similar weapons to attack
them and steal their livestock.
The rustling of cattle has since become a major source
of revenue for the Boko Haram whose activities since
2009 have caused the death of over 20,000 people and
displaced millions of others.

Nigerian Nanny Oluremi Arrested For Killing 8 Month Old Baby Who She Force - Fed 2 Bottles Of Milk AfterThe Baby Woke Her Up From A Nap

A crying baby woke up a napping nanny who then
force-fed the child until the child became
unresponsive and died, police said.
Oluremi Oyindasola, 66, of Glenarden, Md., was
arrested Tuesday and is charged with second-degree
murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in death and
other related charges after 8-month-old Enita Salubi
died in her care, Prince George’s County police
announced Wednesday.
A home surveillance system recorded Oyindasola, a
live-in nanny, napping on the couch of a Glenarden
home when she was disturbed by the crying child, who
came up to her in a toddler walker, according to police
charging documents.
Oyindasola tried to feed the child while she was still in
the walker but was unsuccessful, police said.
Oyindasola then pulled the child from the walker, held
the baby around the child’s chest, removed the nipple
from the baby’s bottle and “proceeded to pour a large
amount of white liquid directly inside the victim’s
mouth,” police charging documents state.
For 25 seconds, the child “appeared to squirm and
aggressively resist as the defendant continued to force
a large amount of liquid inside her mouth,” records
state.

After the first bottled was drained, Oyindasola then
forced the child to consume the contents of a second
bottle.
During the feedings the baby “displayed difficulty
breathing and signs of medical distress,” records state.
After the second bottle, the child became unresponsive
and at about 4:10 p.m. was rushed to the hospital and
pronounced dead.
An autopsy revealed white liquid inside the child’s
lungs, police said. A medical examiner determined the
baby died of asphyxiation and the child’s death was a
homicide, police said.
Oyindasola was the only person watching the child
when the baby suffered her fatal injuries, police said.
Relatives of the baby declined to comment when a
reporter knocked on the door of an address listed for
both the nanny and the child.
It is unclear whether Oyindasola has an attorney, and
her family could not be reached for comment.
Oyindasola is in custody of the Prince George’s County
Department of Corrections.

It 's time to arrest Jonathan ' Lagos APC – Premium Times – Lagos

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives
Congress has criticised former President Goodluck
Jonathan for rising to the defence of his embattled
former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
In a statement on Thursday, the party said Mr.
Jonathan’s claims had proved beyond doubts that he
knew everything about the arms purchase scandal as
well as other corruption cases that happened in his
regime.
“Even as we concede that Jonathan is on a desperate
bid to rehabilitate himself, we wouldn’t believe that a
former president should be so contemptuous of the
intelligence of Nigerians as to give the kind of
defence he gave to Sambo Dasuki,” the Lagos APC
said in a statement by Joe Igbokwe, its publicity
secretary.
“We wonder what Jonathan makes of the horrid
details that are emanating from the Dasukigate issue
with shocking evidences, confessions and even
refunds made by those that participated in that
monumental corruption.”
While addressing a gathering on youth
entrepreneurship at the Oxford Union, in the United
Kingdom, Mr. Jonathan said it was impossible for Mr.
Dasuki, a retired army colonel, to have stolen $2.2
billion as claimed by the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission.
“They said the National Security Adviser stole $2.2
billion,” Mr. Jonathan said while responding to a
question about the alleged missing arms
procurement fund now referred to as Dasukigate by
the Nigerian media.
“I don’t believe somebody can just steal $2.2 billion.
We bought warships, we bought aircraft, we bought
lots of weapons for the army and so on and so forth
and you are still saying 2.2 billion, so where did we
get the money to buy all those things?”
The APC said there should be a limit to defending
“such hefty corruption acts”, which greatly
compromised the nation’s security and led to the
loss of thousands of precious Nigerian lives.
The party also cautioned Mr. Jonathan not to
continue to play on the intelligence of Nigerians
who, they said, is still smarting from the horrendous
cases of corruption that were perpetrated under him.
“To claim that Dasuki and his partners did not steal
the arms purchase fund reveals the inner beliefs of
Jonathan and explains that he is intrinsically webbed
to corruption,” Mr. Igbokwe said.
“Even while he is perceived as pathologically corrupt
and his regime seen as the most corrupt in Nigeria’s
chequered history, one would have expected
Jonathan to be cautious in seeking to advance very
childish and inadmissible exculpation of his
subordinates for glaring acts of corruption.
“We had expected that jJonathan would have striven
to water down the lowly impression held of him by
Nigerians and the international community by not
deciding to be so patronising to clear cases of
corruption by his subordinates. But with each day,
Jonathan continues to baffle by his chameleonic
acts.
“By Jonathan’s cheap defence of Sambo Dasuki, we
believe time has come for the security agencies to
pick up Jonathan to tell the nation all that he knows
of the many cases of corruption that happened under
him.”
The party said it believed the former president knows
more than he admits about the “unseemly corruption”
that he presided over and should be brought in for
questioning.
“We don’t believe any thing shields Jonathan from
prosecution for corruption as we believe it is
becoming indefensible for Jonathan to pretend he
was innocent of the corrupt acts of his
subordinates,” Mr. Igbokwe continued.
“While we condemn Jonathan’s cheeky defence of
Dasuki, even in the face of monumental damning
evidences, we want to state that the anti corruption
war is incomplete until Jonathan is prosecuted for he
continually proves, by such defence of his corrupt
subordinates, that he knew everything that transpired
in his corruption-ridden regime.”

Woman sentenced to 90 Years in prison in Enugu over N5.6m Admission Fraud

A woman by the name of Chika Amsy Charles has been
sentenced to 90 years in Prison by a federal high court
in Enugu for N5.6 million fraud. Chika perpetrated the
fraud along with two others who are currently at large.
Charles was dragged before Justice D.V Agishir by the
EFCC. She was sentenced today, October 27th, to
3 years imprisonment on each of the 30-count charges
filed against her by the anti-graft Commission.
She was found guilty of swindling three Nigerians of
N5,620,000.00 (Five million, Six Hundred and Twenty
Thousand Naira only) under the pretense of helping
them secure admission into Enugu State University of
Science and Technology ESUTH, through her
unregistered NGO called ‘Bold and Dynamic Gender
Initiative’.
One of the charges in her Court documents read:
“That you Chika Amsy Charles, Simon Chidubem
(at large) and Friday Ali(at large) on or about the
10th October, 2007 at Enugu, Enugu State within
the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court of
Nigeria with intent to defraud obtained
N330,000(Three Hundred and Thirty Thousand)
from Okudoh Obinna by false pretense when you
represented yourselves as capable of procuring
admission for his wards into Enugu State
University of Science and Technology which
pretense you knew to be false and thereby
committed an offense contrary to Section 1(1)(b)
of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Related
Offences Act NO: 14 of 2006 and punishable
under Section 1(3) of the same Act”.

National Judicial Council has power of interim suspension

Two weeks ago, the Nigerian Bar Association
had cause to condemn the nocturnal raid on
the official quarters of seven judges
including two members of the Supreme
Court. But upon a further review of the
circumstances surrounding the arrest and
the large sums of money recovered from the
homes of some of the judges the Nigerian
Bar Association was compelled to request
them to recuse themselves until they have
been absolved of the allegations of judicial
corruption leveled against them. Curiously,
without allowing the judges affected to react
to the advice of the NBA the National Judicial
Council (NJC) has said that the judges would
not step aside until an investigation has been
conducted into the allegation of judicial
corruption leveled against them by the
Federal Government.
Meanwhile, notwithstanding the gravity of
the allegation of judicial corruption and the
far reaching implication for the image of the
nation’s judiciary the NJC has not deemed it
fit to institute any inquiry into the matter
because the SSS has not submitted any report
to it. Thus, the NJC has allowed the allegation
of judicial corruption to continue to hang
menacingly on the heads of the judges like a
sword of Damocles. However, the NJC has
held an emergency meeting to review the
arrest of the judges. In a communique issued
at the end of the meeting, the NJC
condemned the manner of the arrest without
denying the allegations of judicial corruption
leveled against the judges.
It is on record that each of the judges has
denied involvement in judicial corruption.
Apart from Justice Nnamdi Dimgba who has
categorically denied any involvement in
corrupt practices or misconduct others have
alleged that their ordeal is politically
motivated. In their own defense, the two
Justices alleged that two serving ministers
had met them to discuss pending appeals at
Supreme Court. One of the jurists even
suggested that the huge sums of money
seized by the SSS were planted in his house.
Before then, a judge in the federal high court
had said that he admitted and signed for the
millions of Naira and foreign currencies
recovered from his residence under duress.
If the NJC had treated this national crisis
with the urgency required it should have
investigated the matter based on the
avalanche of materials placed before it.
Interestingly, the NJC had handled a similar
complaint of judicial corruption about a
decade ago. That was in 2006 when it was
alleged that the members of the Akwa Ibom
governorship election petition tribunal had
received bribes to pervert Justice. Without
prejudice to the innocence of the judges the
NJC suspended them and requested the
Director-General of the SSS to conduct a
discreet investigation into the allegation.
Upon the receipt of the report of the
investigation, it was found that each of the
members of the tribunal had received a bribe
of N10 million while a judge of the federal
high court had acted as a conduit pipe in the
scandal. At that stage, the judges were
confronted with the allegations. As their
defense was found unsatisfactory, the NJC
recommended their removal from the bench.
Furthermore, the NJC referred the matter to
the Independent and Corrupt Practices and
Other Offences Commission. One of the
indicted judges collapsed and died when the
ICPC operatives wanted to arrest him in his
house in Makurdi, Benue State!
Last year, the Judicial of Ghana found itself
in a more embarrassing situation than ours.
Since the bar and the bench had paid lip
service to the nagging crisis of judicial
corruption an investigative journalist, Anas
Arameyaw Anas recorded several judges on
tape while they were busy negotiating bribes
of various sums. The Judicial Council under
the Chief Justice of Ghana, Lady Regina Wood
moved speedily to douse the tension in that
country. The 22 judges who were recognized
in the video were immediately placed on
suspension. They were later investigated and
dismissed from the bench. Before then, the
Acting Chief Justice of The Gambia, Justice
Joseph Wowo, a Nigerian, was caught in a
video demanding a bribe of 2.5 million
Dalasis to pervert justice in a land matter.
Following the demand for his prosecution by
the Gambian Bar Association the judge
quietly resigned as the Acting Chief Justice
and disappeared from The Gambia. He was
later dismissed in absentia by President
Yayah Jammeh.
Given the foregoing, the NJC ought to
commence an investigation into the serious
allegation of judicial corruption leveled
against the embattled judges without any
further delay. Having regard to the
embarrassing disclosures in the letters
addressed to the Chief Justice by the judges
the NJC should follow the advice of the
Nigerian Bar Association by placing them on
suspension pending the conclusion of full-
scale investigation in line with section 2.2.3
of the National Judicial Policy of the National
Judicial Council which stipulates that the
Council shall have the “powers of interim
suspension”. However, both the NJC and the
NBA should demand a public apology for
Justice Nnamdi Dimgba as the SSS has not
been able to link him with any corrupt
practice or misconduct whatsoever.
