This is why Nollywood actors run out of money and turn poor – Queen Nwokoye

Nollywood actress Queen Nwokoye said trying to live up to people’s expectation is the reason why Nollywood actors/actresses run out of money.
Speaking with BroadwayAfrica TV, she said:
“I don’t think it is because they are being extravagant, how many people are to begin with? The truth of the matter is a lot of people are known faces but they are not actually making the type of money people think they make.
Then again, it is an individual thing, it is either you are here or you are there but the truth is a lot of people don’t make that kind of money they think we have.
Some people think we get paid 10 million for acting {laughs} so a lot of times, actors want to live up to false expectations from their fans and that is how they get into trouble.
As far as I am concerned, if you are paid in Nigeria and you want a Gucci bag and you convert your Naira to dollars to go and buy it because Kim Kardashian is carrying it, it doesn’t make sense because she earns dollars.
So for me it is not about being extravagant, everybody loves the good things of life but you have to draw a balance. It is about not truly making that huge amount that actors and actresses make.”
On trading her stardom for a private life, she said:
“We enjoy the stardom and attention but sometimes you just want to walk past unnoticed and just be yourself but I wouldn’t give this up for anything in the world. I love it and appreciate it.”

Fraudster Who Used President Buhari’s Name To Dupe Saudi Arabian Doctor Arrested

Officials of the Inspector-General of Police (IG), Ibrahim Idris, Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have arrested a suspected fraudster, for posing as Idris to use President Muhammedu Buhari’s name to defraud a Saudi Arabia-based medical doctor of $10,000.
The victim, Hassan Alkahallaf, is attached to the Department of Urology, Security Forces Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The police said the 29-year-old suspect, Ekperebuike Akadonye, specialised in impersonating Idris on the internet. Akadonye told operatives of IRT that he contacted his victims via an email address, igofnieria@outlook.com, purportedly belonging to Idris.

He claimed that President Buhari, in his anti-corruption fight, had directed the IG to refund foreign victims, who had been defrauded by Nigerians in the past. Alkahallaf, who had previously been duped by some Nigeria-based internet fraudsters, was said to have fallen for the ruse.
A police source said: “Immediately Alkahallaf received the email, he quickly replied, believing he was dealing with real IG. He was eventually made to pay $10,000 in several instalments before he could get back his lost funds.

“When Akadonye realised the doctor had fallen for his trick, he started demanding money from him. The victim was made to pay money to hire a lawyer who would represent him since he is not based in Nigeria as well as opening bank accounts and obtaining ATM cards.”

Alkahallaf was said to have later contacted the IG Idris through the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Nigeria. He complained of how he has been duped twice by Nigerians. Idris swung into action immediately and directed IRT to trail and apprehend the fraudster.
The team trailed Akadonye to his hometown of Isiala- Mbano in Imo State and apprehended him. Recovered from him were a mobile phone and a laptop used in carrying out the fraud. Akadonye said that it was poverty which led him into the crime.
According to him, he was formerly a trader, but his shops were demolished by Imo State Government and as a result became financially handicapped. The suspect added that his situation forced him to begin to seek others means of survival.
He said: “After my shops were demolished, I had to look for what to do. One of my friends led me into internet fraud. I started by searching for prominent persons on the internet.
“When I found Dr. Alkahallaf, he told me that he had some inheritance funds in Nigeria and he wanted to claim them. I told him that the President had mandated me to assist victims of fraudsters to get back their lost funds. I asked him to pay for a lawyer and to also open a bank account and get ATM cards. He believed and paid me some of the money.”

Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke
About 100 electoral officials are set to be charged to court by anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly receiving part of the $115m (N23bn) disbursed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison- Madueke, during the 2015 presidential election.

According to Punch newspaper, INEC officials would only face dismissal for breach of INEC rules, some of the officials, who have returned a total sum of N400m, may not face prosecution.
Recall that in April, the anti-graft agency arrested the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the 2015 elections in Rivers State, Mrs. Gesila Khan, and other officials of INEC that conducted elections in Delta an Akwa Ibom states.

A source at the EFCC said, “You will recall that the EFCC started investigating the INEC officials in the South-South in March and we arrested several officials, including the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State during the 2015 election, Gesila Khan.
“However, further investigations revealed that the bribery took place across Nigeria and so, all the EFCC zonal offices started conducting investigations simultaneously.
“We have sent reports to the chairman and he is expected to meet with the INEC chairman on Thursday. Some of the electoral officials were not INEC employees but ad hoc staff. Some of the officials collected money through their bank accounts while some collected cash.”

The report also said impeccable sources at EFCC said
Khan, who is now the REC in Cross River state, allegedly received N185.8m ahead of the March 28 and April 11, 2015 elections.
A source alleged that Khan received the money through a special bank account and the commission had received overwhelming evidence.
The source also revealed that the EFCC had arrested one Fidelia Omoile who was the INEC electoral officer in Isoko-South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Apart from tracing over N112.4m to her, the commission also recovered some sensitive electoral materials during a search of her apartments in Edo and Delta states. One Oluchi Obi Brown who was the INEC
administrative secretary in Delta State was also arrested for allegedly receiving over N111.5m. Brown had about $75,000 in an account in the United States.

EFCC also arrested one Edem Okon Effanga, who is a retired INEC official. Effanga was arrested alongside his alleged accomplice, Immaculata Asuquo, who is the Head, Voter Education, INEC, Akwa Ibom State.
Effanga was alleged to have received over N241.1m which he shared among INEC ad hoc workers during the last election. Already detained INEC officials are : Godwin Maiyaki,
Gambo Balanga, Bukar Benisheik, Dukku, Jibril Muhammed, Billiri, Dunguma Dogona, Funakaye, Mohammed Wanka, Kaltungo, Ishaku Yusuf, Kwami, Suleiman Isawa, Babagana Malami, Shongom, and Nuhu Samuel.

Why I was afraid of admitting I’m Christian – Singer, Adewale Ayuba Revealed

Popular Fuji musician, Adewale Ayuba, has opened up on his initial fear after he got converted to Christianity.
Ayuba, now commonly known as Mr. Johnson, was born and bred in a Muslim family.
According to the ex-staunch Muslim, he had been a Christian since 2010, but hasn’t been practicing it for fear of being killed.
The ‘Ijo Fuji’ songster made this known in an open confession in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, weekend.
While admitting that he is now proudly a full Christian, he said, “I have been a Christian for so long, even my family members especially my kids are all going to church but I make sure I go every December 31st. If I don’t, I will presume the New Year would be filled with dangers that will lead to my death.
“I was always scared of admitting to the world that
I’m Christian, for fear of being killed, but now I have the courage to say it boldly, I’m a born-again Christian. I’m no more a Muslim,” Ayuba added.

Omotola Jalade Warns Against Inter Religious Marriages “Christians Who Marry Unbelievers Are On Their Own”

Nigerian actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde who was one of the speakers at the Innovation Warehouse, a mentorship programme for aspiring filmmakers and actors during the just concluded Africa International Film Festival in Lagos, has given an insight into what
makes an marriage to work.
The mother of four was advising young aspiring female actors and filmmakers who seek stardom, but are worried they might end up not finding the right man once they get into limelight.
Omosexy, as she’s fondly called, dished out free counseling when a lady asked why fame usually come the way of celebrity marriages.
“It’s better to be an enemy to a work partner than to your family,” said Omotola.

Speaking further, she stated that for a marriage to work in the entertainment industry, partners must be of the same faith. “They must believe in you. If you’re a Christian and you marry someone who is not born again then you are on your own.
“Your partner needs to be stronger than you. They are the ones getting the aftermath of your own action.
“Choose a partner who understands entertainment. Don’t choose your fan. Personally, I don’t believe in love at first sight.
“Pick someone who sees your heart, your soul, someone who sees the real you and not afraid to tell you about your flaws.
“Discipline is key. Everyone wants freedom but too much freedom is bad. Be disciplined. It’s better to be an enemy to a work partner than to your family. Learn to say No!
“We are like nurses and doctors in the industry because
we can be called upon at anytime”.
She also advised against giving in to advances to get movie roles. “Sometimes you will get a role for giving yourself out but you won’t be able to retain it. If you become famous it will later hunt you. But don’t run away from your sexuality, don’t shy away from who you are, enjoy who you are, come on there but come out with substance.
Omotola got married to a pilot, Captain Matthew Ekeinde in 1996; they are both blessed with four kids.

“Why I had a secret wedding”, Di’ja opens up

Sierra Leonian-Nigerian singer, Afro Di’ja, real name Hadiza Salma Blell had a super secret wedding, and when she eventually had her first born child, it was kept away from the public.
She has now revealed the reason for all the secrecy. In a chat with LIB, she also gave reasons why she never posts her husband’s pictures on her social media.
Read below:
When asked why she didn’t post her husband’s photos on social media, she said:
Even before we got married he is a very private person, and i actually believe in respecting people’s zones until they are ready. It’s not like we don’t. So because a lot of things don’t happen right now-people are like, why are you not doing this and why are you not doing that, what’s wrong, what are you hiding, you know what i mean?
We are not hiding anything, we actually go to events together and do stuff together, and i just feel, for me, am not very good at…, I like enjoying the moment, yeah, and am actually very bad at doing the posting thing. I don’t know if you have noticed, i mean recently, I started doing selfies when people were like, Di’ja, why are you not doing selfies? So not long ago, i did my very first mirror selfie, (Laughs).
Not like i don’t want to do these things sometimes, I just enjoy the moments and forget to take pictures when we hang out, that’s why presently, i am always begging my crew, (‘please help me take pictures mek me sef dey pose na, wetin dey happen?’) So, it’s just that thing where I am enjoying the moment and then I forget. So we are not hiding anything. Sometimes if he can make it with me to an event, he comes, and if can’t, he will come to the next. So it’s not like he is not there, or that it doesn’t happen, i guess it’s just that, it happens and i don’t get to translate it on my page.

On why she had a very low key wedding.
Well, i mean, if you call having about 400 people grace your wedding low key, then i guess, yeah. It was more of just intimate and it’s also in my home town, Kaduna, so it’s kind of hard to get people to come over there and then Kaduna is not as ‘Noisy’ as Lagos.
So anything like that could be probably called low key, but like i said, most of these things are happening but, where the problem lies is that i just don’t translate them onto being posted on my page. And i guess in the ‘Post it’ ‘Tweet it’ world; you almost kind of look abnormal if you don’t. But it’s not like am going out of my way not to, i guess it’s just not in my character to do it all the time, but i’m also getting better at my Instagram. At least you see my baby and all other stuff, (laughs).
So I always say there is difference between privacy and secrecy, it’s not something to hide. Again, i guess people forget that when you are in the entertainment industry, you also have to live a normal life. For instance, i wake up in the morning and i give my son a bath, and sometimes my mom will, and other times, it is a maid and an aunt that would help me with him. So don’t forget you have a real life too and you have people to answer to as well.
Again you wake up and you have people that are depending on you, and people you pay for the work they do for you, you know as much as we have this entertainment life, and it’s amazing, i mean, God bless you all for liking us so much because it’s actually your love that has put us on the pedestal, but we also do these things and wake up with a regular life, so in that sense and sometimes because i could get carried away, that’s majorly the problem.

4-Year-Old Girl, UNIBEN Lecturer’s Daughter Shot Dead By Armed Robbers In Benin City Edo State

The Victim

Robbers Kill 4 Year Old Girl During Robbery Attack At UNIBEN Lecturer, Prof Kingsley Ogbeide’s Home In Benin
A 4-year-old girl identified as Aisosa Ogbeide has been shot dead by robbers who attacked her parents’ residence at 19, Enadeghe Street, Off Ugbowo-Lagos Road in Edo State.
The deceased’s father, Dr. Kingsley Ogbeide, a lecturer in Engineering department at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), said his two children between the ages of six and two sustained bullet wounds during the attack.
Dr. Ogbeide told journalists that the gunmen scaled the fence of his building and broke into his apartment at about 4:00 a.m. on November 19.
The lecturer said he opened the slide on one of the windows in the sitting room for fresh air to come into the building when somebody flashed a torch on him, followed by a voice that ordered him to open the door.
He said, “We started scampering for safety and raised alarm to nearby neighbours. The children woke up, we all ran to the lobby, within two minutes they broken the protector and were inside the house.
“When they entered they started asking where is the money where is the gold. I said we don’t have money or gold. Truthfully I was only having N500 in my wallet. My wife had no money. We are just civil servants. We told them that there are laptops, and they took the laptops and phones.
“Being that the lobby door was a bit closed, one of them suddenly shot through the door and the bullet hit one of my daughters, a four and a half years old daughter who died on the spot while the other two children sustained some injuries. “

I Am Scared Of Becoming A Father ” – Nollywood Actor Kalu Ikeagwu Reveals

Nollywood actor Kalu Ikeagwu has revealed his fears of fatherhood because he doesn’t want his child to grow up like him ..

The British- born revealed his fears come whenever he remembers how stubborn he was as a child..

In an exclusive chat with Entertainer , he said : “ Well , it is God who gives . Hmmm … I don ’ t want
to have more than I can handle. I am a bit apprehensive about being a dad because I know what I was like as a child and how unruly I was.

And in this age where there are a lot of outside forces that influence children , I am praying for the grace to be able to discipline my kids with love . So , I want as many as I can handle but I don ’ t want more than I can handle, let us say three kids. ”
The actor, who revealed he needed just four kids , then testified to the joys of marriage saying:
“ I think I went for the best , ” he says, as his face melts in a wrinkle of smiles .

“ I threw away all my pre - conceived notions because, before now , I used to be very picky ; she had to be very beautiful , look a certain way and all of that. Usually , I like dark - complexioned women ; slim , beautiful and everything . But I just told God that, if you want to give me fat , light complexioned and whatever state she is from, I am okay with it .”

2 Nigerian Students Jailed Over Turkey Coup Saga Arrive Home, Narrate Ordeal

Sent to Turkey for university education by parents who wanted the best for them, two young Nigerians recall the horror of being bundled into Silivri Maximum Security Prison where they joined Turkish military personnel, civil servants, professionals and other suspects detained over alleged involvement in Turkey’s July 15 military coup.
They are among scores of Nigerian students who came home without being allowed to collect their graduation certificates, academic transcripts, electronics and other items which the Turkish authorities said they would return only after the completion of investigation early next year. They spoke with Assistant Editor, JIDE BABALOLA, in Abuja.
It was almost four months since Mohammed Abdullahi and Hassan Danjuma Adamu were detained by security agencies in Turkey in the wake of a military coup that rattled the country in July this year, but they still appeared somewhat dazed by the experience. The two Nigerian students were picked up from their hostels and detained for three months in Turkey’s maximum prison over their alleged involvement in the aborted military coup of July 15, 2016.

Mohammed Abdullahi

Danjuma
Although they are happy to be home, the two young men, who grew up in homes where moral and religious instructions predominate, are still enmeshed in confusion. They had travelled to far away Turkey dreaming to complete their education, after which they will undergo the compulsory one-year national youth service and begin earning a decent living and making their families proud. On the contrary, however, they found themselves in handcuffs, dumped at Silivri Maximum Security Prison.
Mohammed Abdullahi, who studied Mathematics and Computer Science at BahçeÅŸehir University in Istanbul, Turkey told The Nation his story when asked to explain how he got ‘involved’ with the July coup.
He said: “I was sleeping soundly in my hostel when the constant noise of helicopter propeller in the sky woke me up. I did not even have the faintest idea that something like a coup was going on in the city. I only got to know about it from the updates that some friends were adding on Facebook.
“Later, on July 28, the person that sweeps the apartment that we were living in reported to the police that the building belongs to the Jamaat (linked to the Hizmet movement, followers of Gülen’s doctrines) which was branded as an armed terrorist group by the police. So, the police came and took us to the police station, we were interrogated but there was nothing found on us.
“The next day, they took us directly to the court, and from court, they took us to prison straightaway. We were in the Maximum Security Prison for three months and were not allowed to see anyone except for those of us who had family members around. It was after one and a half months that someone came from the Nigerian Embassy. He talked to us and assured us that they were working on our issue and Alhamdulillah, we are out now.
“We were detained with soldiers and other civilians who were also accused (of involvement in the coup), and there were people with different cases. In our own case, the allegation was that we were members of an armed terrorist group,” he stated.
The Nation learnt that the ‘crime’ of the students, which turned them into ‘suspects’ for the Turkish authorities was probably that of living in a hostel that belonged to the Hizmet movement, which is now labelled an “armed terrorist group” in spite of its dependence on intellectual debates, humanitarian activities, quality education and inter-religious dialogue to galvanize people.
“Thus, we were ‘suspects’. Right now, our computers, phones and our electronics are with them. They said we should wait till January 10 when the emergency situation will be over, and then they will send them to us.
“In the prison, they normally brought lunch and dinner, and there was hot water for some hours in the day time. There was a canteen, and we wrote if we wanted to buy something from the canteen. They would bring the list and the price tags for you.
“I was lucky I had some money, so we were able to survive on that throughout our stay there.
“Officials at the Nigerian Embassy in Turkey tried their best and even our friends outside too, even though I do not know what exactly each person did to draw attention to our plight. You can’t imagine how happy we were when a Nigerian embassy official came. Before then, for two good months, my friend and I were only seeing and interacting with the Turkish ‘suspects’,”
Recalling his own experience, Hassan Adamu said: “We were there for three months but were allowed to call our families just once. It was really difficult because I had never imagined myself in prison. I am a student. My father sent me to Turkey to study and then this happened.
“On the 15th of July, that was when it happened. I was actually going to play football because my friend invited me. I went to my hostel to dress up and go to the field but suddenly realised that I forgot my glasses and the house key in school,” he said as he explained the genesis of his troubles.
Having grown up in a home where much premium is placed on good behaviour, diminutive Adamu, who can be easily mistaken for a secondary school student, still feels some nightmares and psychological trauma.
Although he was only waiting to collect his graduation certificate and study transcripts after completing his bachelor’s degree in Computer Studies at BahçeÅŸehir University in Istanbul, Yobe State-born Hassan Adamu was arrested by the Turkish police on July 28.
“It is true that I was really scared and we were in a police cell for 14 days before we were taken to a stinking prison with no proper ventilation, where we met several Turkish soldiers and other professionals accused of involvement in the coup,” he said.
Although there was not even a tiny shred of evidence to implicate Hassan and Mohammed, those who arrested them found no need to give any specific explanation to justify the broad accusation levelled against the Nigerian students.
Briskly, they were made to pass through the rounds at the court and then taken in handcuffs like every other suspect to Silivri Maximum Security Prison.

How Atiku Abubakar’s Wife Titi Was Duped By Akwa Ibom Politician Akpan Jacobs

Mrs Aminat Titi Abubakar, wife of former Nigeria’s Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, yesterday told a Lagos high court sitting in Ikeja of how she was defrauded of N918 million by a former governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, Nsikakabasi Akpan Jacobs.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Jacobs, Abdulmalik Ibrahim and Dana Motors on a 15-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and fraudulent conversion of properties belonging to THA Shipping Maritime Services Ltd.
Led by the prosecution counsel, Mr Babatunde Sonoiki, told the court presided over by Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye how Akpan allegedly defrauded her of her shares in the company and other proceeds.
She told the court thàt Akpan Jacobs who doubled as the company’s managing director and secretary had allegedly gone to the Corporate Affairs Commission where he altered the share arrangement in his favour.
She alleged Akpan forged a company board resolution re-distributing the shares ownership and alloted 70 per cent to himself , 15 per cent to her and 15 per cent to Holmes.
With the shares re-distribution, Akpan Jacobs was alleged to have fraudulently assumed full ownership of THA Shipping and subsequently sold a property worth N918m belonging to the company to Dana Motor Nigeria Limited.

Check Out the Annoying Things Nigerians Do When They Visit Foreign Countries

Nigerians are known for their love for traveling around the world. These are some the things they do when they visit other countries.
The streets of New York

The last thing any Nigerian who travels abroad wants to do is look or be different.
Nigerians generally put in the effort to blend in or endear themselves to the locals in whatever location they find themselves , however, it is amazing to know that despite their intention, certain actions still mark them out, not necessarily in a negative way, but certainly in a unique form. Traveling out of Nigeria to a foreign location?
Before you jump on that plane to head anywhere outside of the country take a look at Jumia Travel’s list of 5 annoying things Nigerian’s do abroad. It should serve as a starter to keep you from threading the same path.
1. Only eating the food they know
You would think that a visitor to a new location would explore its parameters, savoring its gastronomies…that is not the usual case with tourist Nigerians. Several African and Nigerian restaurants are booming in foreign countries not necessarily because of the number of the people in diaspora who patronize but for a large number of tourists who visit for local meals. Nigerian prefer to stick to their own food, and in situations where there are no local restaurants or foods around, they usually stick to staples like bread or rice.
2. Use Naija slangs

Nigerians are very proud of their local language and even more of the colloquial language prevalent in the nation. Most Nigerians abroad adopt these slangs in their normal English and use them while referring to all kinds of people, even those who have no clue of what it could mean. Do not be surprised to find a Nigerian in Beijing using such slangs as “Abeg”, “Shebi”, “Pele”etc. while communicating to a Local in the city.
3. Butcher the foreign accent

Nigerians tend to believe that they can pull off any accent or speak any language if they tried. They are usually empaths when it comes to speaking. In most cases, they mimic the accent of whoever they talk to. A reoccurring instance is a Nigerian faking an American accent on the first trip to the US. The thing, however, is that while they struggle to adopt the new accent, they ruin it and end up not communicating properly to the
local, or sometimes even irritating whoever they are talking to.
4. Shop for Africa
It is no secret. Nigerians are the one with the heaviest carry-ons and the largest number of shopping bags.

While some might not be shopaholics and rarely shop while in Nigeria, it is a different story when they travel, they shop till they drop as they most times mentally convert the cost of the purchase and keep buying because they feel it is much cheaper.

Oh No! ATM Machines Run Out of Cash as Ondo Residents Make Panic Withdrawals

People in some parts of Akure are already feeling frustrated as ATM machines in the area have stopped working due to panic withdrawals.

Some of the ATM booths were overcrowded as customers waited endlessly to withdraw money Many were left frustrated on Friday in Akure, the Ondo State because of the inability of many automated teller machines to dispense cash as early as 10am, Punch reports.
The situation was worsened due to the public holiday declared by the state government as banks did not open for operations today. The ATM machines at Alagbaka area where almost all the banks have their branches were not dispensing cash at around 10:30am, the report revealed.
The frustration forced some of the customers to loiter around with the hope that bank officials would come and load cash or rectify the errors that prevented the machines from dispensing cash.
Blessing Hassan who came to withdraw money expressed dissatisfaction how some of the banks treated their customers knowing fully well that people would be in need of money during the election period.
According to her, she wasted more than an hour waiting for the two machines at Adegbola Junction to dispense without success. QShe said, “The machines around the place are not working. And I can’t go to Alagbaka because some people came from there and told me that the machines over there also did not dispense cash.
“This is unfair; since the bank officials knew ahead that today (Friday) is a public holiday, they ought to have assigned some of their workers to keep loading the machines with money and to promptly rectify any error, to make for hitch-free operations.”
However, some of the machines resumed cash dispensing some hours after.

The ex-lover of Toyin Aimakhu got in trouble on Tuesday after he allegedly stole 10 iPhones from a shop at the Computer village in Ikeja Lagos.
He was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ikeja yesterday and charged with one-count of stealing.
He was granted bail in the sum of N1million and 2 sureties in like sum when he pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate Aje Afunwa ordered him remanded in Kirikiri prison pending the time he would perfect his bail conditions.

Nigerian Mega Churches, Religiosity And Godliness – An Opinion Piece By Isaac Aluko Ademoroti

In our land these days, can we truthfully say that it is solely the love of God that motivates those who start or run churches and ministries or could there be other motivating factors that we do not know of? Is God Himself benefitting in any way from the increase in the number of these churches and ministries?
There are those who remain puzzled that despite the number of churches, Nigerians are not necessarily becoming more godly. In our country, religiousity has simply not translated into godliness. What then is the positive impact of the increasing number of churches and ministries? What can we, as a society, show for this vast increase? From this increase, can we seriously begin to enumerate the benefits that have accrued to the various institutions that define our nation?
Ordinarily, no sane, church-attending, bible-believing, Spirit-filled, hymn-singing, hand-clapping, heaven-bound, Rapture-expecting Christian would object at the thought of more churches and ministries being established. What draws the ire of decent people is the realisation that churches and ministries are being established for the wrong reasons.
Now, let us look at the usually acceptable or right reasons why churches and ministries should proliferate. One is to ensure that people do not have to travel far before they can find a place of worship. This will ensure that people do not give excuses for not practically belonging to the family of God. Another reason is the need to bring the church to the people thereby spreading the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. One other reason is the need to provide succour for weary souls that are in need of spiritual help. In most cases, however, it seems many of those who start churches and ministries have reasons different from the ones stated above.
It is hardly surprising then that despite the high number of churches and ministries, any positive impact on the society is almost zero. For example, despite the rise in the number of churches and ministries, the level of violence in the society has increased, kidnapping of humans for ransom has become a thriving business and our leaders have become more daring. Children are being burnt alive. It is also a known fact that many church leaders are hands-in-glove with the looting politicians. Is it any wonder that fear, apprehension and uncertainty rule the land? Many of the pastors themselves no longer feel safe as they go about with heavies and other security details who carry guns and knives.
The chances are that churches and ministries will fail to positively impact the society until they wake up to their God-given responsibility of making the Word of God the focus, the hub, the fulcrum and the Final Court of Appeal in anything they do.
Under normal circumstances, it is the duty of the Christian church to ensure that the new Christian believer is properly trained in the things of God. This is supposed to continue until that new believer truly internalises and practises Christian teachings of true repentance from dead works, new birth, cleansing in the blood of the Lamb, true worship, holiness, stewardship in the power of the Holy Spirit, soul winning, the oneness of the body of Christ, the necessity of being ready for the Rapture and several other things. Sadly, these things are no longer on the agenda of many church leaders and pastors.
Nowadays, someone would most likely want to start a church because he or she wants to be independent and thus be the overall boss. To such a person, other considerations are secondary. Usually, his or her real reason for wanting to start a church remains unstated. Others go into the ministry or start a church for economic reasons. Such people believe that there is nothing wrong in using God to feather their own nests. Also, there are those who, after a disagreement, would conclude that the next best thing to do is to start their own church. It is sad that these people refuse to recognise the fact that the afore-stated reasons are not the right reasons for giving birth to a church which is essentially an organism and much more than a mere organisation. The truth is that their churches can only be fashioned in their own image. Only life can give birth to life. The Lord Himself says in John 3 verse 6, ‘‘That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.’’
Therefore, it would not be out of place to summarise that the main motives these days for wanting to start churches include the following: Self-aggrandizement or self-promotion, determination to prove a point, deliberately going out on the orders of the devil to pollute the body of Christ, influence seeking and finally financial gain. Most churches have become family business empires. None of the motives stated above can stand up to examination before God.
The all-important question is: Is it right to start a church without being led of God? Even after one has convinced himself or herself that there is a need for establishing a church, shouldn’t one clear it with God before going ahead to start one? The dangers of starting a church without being led of the Holy Spirit are as follows: The Almighty would probably not back actively a venture He did not initiate. Secondly, the founder is not unaware that he or she is not responsible to anyone, not even to the Lord. Thirdly, the challenges that would arise may lead the founder to seek power outside God. Fourthly, the one that will be celebrated in such a church will be the leader or founder and not Jesus Christ. Finally, the founder may be leading people to hell but still be deluding himself/herself that he/she is working for God.
A church that is established and run according to the will of God will have the following characteristics: Jesus Christ is the centre of attraction and not the leader or founder. The Holy Spirit is in control and leads the church. The church accepts the leadership of the Holy Spirit and follows keenly such leadership. The Word of God, that is, the holy bible is the Final Court of Appeal on any issue in such a church. Lastly, members of the church are being prepared for the Rapture.
Unfortunately, most people do not bother to ask the right questions before becoming members of a church because they do not realise that their lives and eternity may be at stake. The relevant questions that people should ask are: Is this church established according to the will of God? Is Jesus the centre of attraction in the church? What does the church stand for? What are the beliefs of the church? Does the church accept the finality of the bible? Does the church believe that her members’ lives must be transformed into the image of the Lord Jesus Christ?

C & S Pastor Beaten To Stupor By Rivers State Police ACP Dr Emmanuel Eze In Lekki Lagos Over Land Dispute

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Rivers State, Dr. Emmanuel Eze has been accused of assaulting a Lagos pastor, Johnson Dominic over land dispute. Dominic, the pastor in charge of New Jerusalem Parish of the Celestial Church of God, Ogunse, Onosa Avenue, Ibeju Lekki, is currently being treated at a hospital in Jakande following the alleged attack.
Speaking from his hospital bed Wednesday, Dominic alleged that the ACP and four of his men stormed his premises in Monday and dragged him on the floor.

According to him, he was beaten to a pulp because he refused to relinquish the plot of land he bought from the ACP at N1.2 million without a refund of his money.
Dominic who claimed to have known that ACP for some years, said he was looking after about 16 plots of land the police boss bought in the area.
Despite a plot of land at the area being sold for about N700, 000, Dominic claimed he paid a million naira and later added N200,000 to get one of the ACP’s plot beside his church.
However, he alleged that the police boss turned around and demanded more money from him, a demand he was not willing to fulfil.
Following his refusal to pay more money, the pastor alleged that the ACP threatened him to leave the plot of land and accused him of encroaching into his property.
He said:
“What happened was that I was in the church around 5pm, attending to the people coming for prayers. I saw the ACP and his convoy. They beat me up and dragged me to the floor because I demanded a refund of my money if he insists on getting back the plot of land he sold to me.
“We had known each other for some years. The ACP bought 16 plots of land beside my church and he asked me to take care of it. Later, the ACP said he was going to sell six plots and I should get buyers for him. He said he was selling each for N1m.
“I asked him to map out the land, so that people could buy. I told him I needed a plot beside my church so that one of my members could use it for a mechanic’s workshop.
“Ordinarily, lands sell for N700,000 in the area, but he asked for N1m and I paid him. I paid the money in February last year. He later said he was not selling the land again for N1m and he would demand N1.2m, which I balanced him N200,000.” But Eze denied the allegation, insisting that neither he nor the four pastors who went to the site with him touched the victim.
