Fake Nigerian Doctor Who Learned Medicine From Retired Dr Godwin Kanu Arrested For Performing Surgeries With No Licence
A medical doctor who owned Empire Medical Center on Soyebo area of Ikorodu has been arrested for allegedly carrying out surgical operations without license.
We gathered that Eleazar, whose facility is on Soyebo Street, Ikorodu, had been practising for sometime before officials of the Lagos Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency stormed the area.
The officials were said to have found four patients awaiting surgeries at the hospital. Three others were said to have been operated on by the suspect.
All the patients were subsequently taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital, while the centre was shut.
The Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Health, Adeola Salako, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect claimed to have studied medicine in the Dominican Republic.
She added that when asked to produce his certificate, he claimed he had yet to get it due to financial constraints.
She said, “ Mr. Onumoh Eleazer claimed that he studied Medicine in the Dominican Republic, but that he didn’t have the money to collect his certificate. He, however, confessed that one Dr Godwin Kanu, a retired consultant traumatologist and orthopaedist, trained him for 14 years after his return to the country and since then, he had been practising medicine.”
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary Health Care, Dr Olufemi Onanuga, said Eleazar was arrested for offences bordering on quackery, adding that he had been handed over to the police for prosecution.

Troops arrest 504 insurgents, rescue1,880 in Sambisa forest

The Nigerian army in its operation in Sambisa forest to rid it off the presence of Boko Haram terrorists have rescued additional 1,880 women and children from insurgents.

The theatre commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, in a news conference at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri on Wednesday, December 21, said that troops also arrested about 504 Boko Haram terrorists while 19 of them willingly surrendered.

He said that the Army had arrested about 37 foreigners who were currently undergoing interrogations to ascertain whether they were terrorists or not.

“We also arrested about seven kidnappers and we are currently interrogating them. Our troops have continued to make significant progress in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.

“I gladly say that our troops have successfully mop up all the areas in Sambisa Forest including gate one.

“We are currently in camp zero; I am not going to tell you what we are doing there. But I can assure you that we are recording remarkable successes,” he said.

The theatre commander said: “69 male adults, 180 females, 227 male children and 129 female children, were rescued during the operation between December 7 and December 14.

He noted that troops have continued to make progress in the offensive move in Sambisa forest.

The implication of this is that the budget is fraught with a lot of controversial stipulations that could pitch the National Assembly against the executive arm of the federal government again.

“I have said that the present administration is more corrupt than previous. I said so because what is happening in the system today is that individuals will steal public funds and pretend as if nothing is happening.

“And if we look at the things that are in place, the recovery of funds that is in place, they are all shrouded in secrecy.

“How much has been recovered? What do we have in the TSA? They are all shrouded in secrecy.

“And for a government that is talking of anti-corruption and transparency, how then can you be that secret? Buhari is constrained.

“If you also look at the budget that Mr President has just presented, I call it a recipe for corruption.

“The base is faulty, the facts are not correct,” he said.

He said the budget was based on 2.2 million barrels of crude oil per day, adding that this was faulty.

“It is not achievable and even where you achieve 2.2 million barrels, how much comes to the federal government? It is not the entire 2.2 million that comes to the federal government,” he added.

According to him, if the crude is $45 per barrel, then what would be the profit on one barrel of crude?

“And then what percentage of that profit comes to the federal government? So you would find out that the calculation is faulty and how can you be talking about change, you present a budget without MTEF.

And tomorrow it would look like the National Assembly is the problem with the budget, when there is no MTEF.

“We could come out with the medium term expenditure framework and give bench mark for crude and it is not in tandem with the bench mark they used, what would happen? There would be another logjam.”

He is yet to be seen ever since.Left to grow up with her grandfather at his Idumegbede Quarters Iruekpen Ekpoma residence, Favour, according to neighbours, lacked many things as her aged guardian could do very little to fend for her needs. This, they added, made life quite difficult for the little girl.Speaking to our reporter on why he decided to give out little Favour up for adoption, Pa Airiohuodion said he can no longer afford to keep the little girl with him as he is unable to meet her needs. He regretted that her son, whois Favour’s biological father, has refused to look back since he left the girl with him.The octogenarian said apart from the financialburden of taking care of the child, he is daily getting weaker physically. Consequently, he is afraid that soon, he will not be able to take good care of the child he described as “very smart and hardworking.”“I am sad that Kennedy my son, who is Favour’s biological father, has refused to look back since he left the girl with me. He left her over six years ago and went away. I am yet to see him since then. I am not able to meet all the needs of the little girl and I am not happy seeing her in need.“Also, I am daily getting weaker physically. I am not as strong as I used to be when I was younger, so I am afraid that soon, I will not be able to take good care of Favour, who is a very smart and hardworking child. The whereabouts of the little girl remain unknown as at press time.According to a version of the story gathered by CityScoop, the assailants actually wanted to kidnap Aisha and her daughter and it was while she was struggling to save her daughter that she was hit with the bullet.Aisha Alli-Balogun was 28 years old. She was born on March 7, 1988. She attended Reagan Memorial Baptist Girls Secondary School and then proceeded to Lagos State University where she graduated in 2009 with a BA in English.Also an actress, Aisha was one of the contestants at the 2011 edition of The Next Movie Star reality show which was eventually won by talented actress, Tamara Eteimo.She has since been buried according to Islamic rites while the whereabouts of her daughter remain unknown.

Betty Mberek o (40), who was widowed 12 years ago, has been cohabiting with her first child, Farai Mbereko (23). She confirms that she is six months pregnant and that she has decided it is better to “marry” her son because she does not want to marry her late husband’s young brothers, whom she says are coveting her.

Betty stunned a village court last week when she said the affair with her son had begun three years earlier. She said after spending a lot of money sending Farai to school following the death of her husband, she felt she had a right to his money and no other woman was entitled to it.

“Look, I strove alone to send my son to school and no one helped me. Now you see that my son is working and you accuse me of doing something wrong. “Let me enjoy the products of my sweat,” she told the village court.

Farai said he was more than prepared to marry his mother and would pay off the ilobola balance his father had left unpaid to his grandparents. “I know my father died before he finished paying the bride price and I am prepared to pay it off,” he said.

“It is better to publicise what is happening because people should know that I am the one who made my mother pregnant. Otherwise they will accuse her of promiscuity.”
But local headman Nathan Muputirwa says: “We cannot allow this to happen in our village, mashura chaiwo aya, (This is a bad omen indeed).

In the past they would have to be killed but today we cannot do it because we are afraid of the police.” He warned them to break off their marriage or leave his village.

They chose the latter and have left the village for an unknown destination.

Husband and wife arraigned for $8m Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today November 16, 2016 arraigned the duo of Austine Chidiebere Ezeama and Juliet Ezeama (Husband and wife) before Justice O. H. Oshodi of the Lagos State High Court Ikeja on a Seven count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.One of the count read, “Augustine Chidiebere Ezeama, Juliet Ezeama and Mabrubeni NigeriaLimited, on or about the 6th day of May, 2015 at Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of $30,570 (Thirty ThousandFive Hundred and Seventy US Dollars) from CIFERCOM LLC under the false Pretence that the money was for registration of CIFERCOM LLC as a company in Nigeria preparatory to the award of $8 million (Eight million US Dollars) contract to CIFERCOM LLC by the Federal Government of Nigeria, which representation you knew to be false”.They both pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.Justice Oshodi remanded the defendants in EFCC custody and subsequently adjourned the matter till 21st November, 2016 for bail application.
