It is Wrong For Legislature to Seek National Budget Increase-Fashola

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing,
Mr, Babatunde Fashola, says it is wrong for
the legislature to unilaterally seek to
increase the national budget.

Fashola, who made this remark as one of
the panelists at the annual conference of
the Nigerian Bar Association, said that the
major responsibility of the legislature
is representation.
He maintained that since the federal
lawmakers had no powers to collect tax,
they did not possess the right to
unilaterally increase the budget.
However, former Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, called
for a joint project office between the
executive and the legislature in the
development of budgets to save the system
from friction.
