A 4-year-old girl identified as Aisosa Ogbeide has been shot dead by robbers who attacked her parents’ residence at 19, Enadeghe Street, Off Ugbowo-Lagos Road in Edo State.
The deceased’s father, Dr. Kingsley Ogbeide, a lecturer in Engineering department at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), said his two children between the ages of six and two sustained bullet wounds during the attack.
Dr. Ogbeide told journalists that the gunmen scaled the fence of his building and broke into his apartment at about 4:00 a.m. on November 19.
The lecturer said he opened the slide on one of the windows in the sitting room for fresh air to come into the building when somebody flashed a torch on him, followed by a voice that ordered him to open the door.
He said, “We started scampering for safety and raised alarm to nearby neighbours. The children woke up, we all ran to the lobby, within two minutes they broken the protector and were inside the house.
“When they entered they started asking where is the money where is the gold. I said we don’t have money or gold. Truthfully I was only having N500 in my wallet. My wife had no money. We are just civil servants. We told them that there are laptops, and they took the laptops and phones.
“Being that the lobby door was a bit closed, one of them suddenly shot through the door and the bullet hit one of my daughters, a four and a half years old daughter who died on the spot while the other two children sustained some injuries. “

Oh No! ATM Machines Run Out of Cash as Ondo Residents Make Panic Withdrawals

People in some parts of Akure are already feeling frustrated as ATM machines in the area have stopped working due to panic withdrawals.

Some of the ATM booths were overcrowded as customers waited endlessly to withdraw money Many were left frustrated on Friday in Akure, the Ondo State because of the inability of many automated teller machines to dispense cash as early as 10am, Punch reports.
The situation was worsened due to the public holiday declared by the state government as banks did not open for operations today. The ATM machines at Alagbaka area where almost all the banks have their branches were not dispensing cash at around 10:30am, the report revealed.
The frustration forced some of the customers to loiter around with the hope that bank officials would come and load cash or rectify the errors that prevented the machines from dispensing cash.
Blessing Hassan who came to withdraw money expressed dissatisfaction how some of the banks treated their customers knowing fully well that people would be in need of money during the election period.
According to her, she wasted more than an hour waiting for the two machines at Adegbola Junction to dispense without success. QShe said, “The machines around the place are not working. And I can’t go to Alagbaka because some people came from there and told me that the machines over there also did not dispense cash.
“This is unfair; since the bank officials knew ahead that today (Friday) is a public holiday, they ought to have assigned some of their workers to keep loading the machines with money and to promptly rectify any error, to make for hitch-free operations.”
However, some of the machines resumed cash dispensing some hours after.

C & S Pastor Beaten To Stupor By Rivers State Police ACP Dr Emmanuel Eze In Lekki Lagos Over Land Dispute

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Rivers State, Dr. Emmanuel Eze has been accused of assaulting a Lagos pastor, Johnson Dominic over land dispute. Dominic, the pastor in charge of New Jerusalem Parish of the Celestial Church of God, Ogunse, Onosa Avenue, Ibeju Lekki, is currently being treated at a hospital in Jakande following the alleged attack.
Speaking from his hospital bed Wednesday, Dominic alleged that the ACP and four of his men stormed his premises in Monday and dragged him on the floor.

According to him, he was beaten to a pulp because he refused to relinquish the plot of land he bought from the ACP at N1.2 million without a refund of his money.
Dominic who claimed to have known that ACP for some years, said he was looking after about 16 plots of land the police boss bought in the area.
Despite a plot of land at the area being sold for about N700, 000, Dominic claimed he paid a million naira and later added N200,000 to get one of the ACP’s plot beside his church.
However, he alleged that the police boss turned around and demanded more money from him, a demand he was not willing to fulfil.
Following his refusal to pay more money, the pastor alleged that the ACP threatened him to leave the plot of land and accused him of encroaching into his property.
He said:
“What happened was that I was in the church around 5pm, attending to the people coming for prayers. I saw the ACP and his convoy. They beat me up and dragged me to the floor because I demanded a refund of my money if he insists on getting back the plot of land he sold to me.
“We had known each other for some years. The ACP bought 16 plots of land beside my church and he asked me to take care of it. Later, the ACP said he was going to sell six plots and I should get buyers for him. He said he was selling each for N1m.
“I asked him to map out the land, so that people could buy. I told him I needed a plot beside my church so that one of my members could use it for a mechanic’s workshop.
“Ordinarily, lands sell for N700,000 in the area, but he asked for N1m and I paid him. I paid the money in February last year. He later said he was not selling the land again for N1m and he would demand N1.2m, which I balanced him N200,000.” But Eze denied the allegation, insisting that neither he nor the four pastors who went to the site with him touched the victim.

Having been caught on a video tape with one of his students identified as Mercy Ikwue, Dr.  Olabode Ojoniyi of the Department of Languages and Linguistics, Ikire Campus, Osun University was sacked by the Governing Council of the Osun State University, Osogbo.

It was however gathered that, on Sunday, headed by Mallam Yusuf Ali SAN, the Governing Council, terminated the appointment of the lecturer, who appeared nude  on a bed  in an hotel room while caressing Miss Ikwue.

After judgement was pronounced on Ojoniyi, a member of the Governing Council confirmed the sacking of Ojoniyi in Osogbo on Sunday.

In his words, he however said:
“The Council met last week and the report of the panel that investigated Ojoniyi’s amorous affair with the female student was deliberated upon. His appointment was terminated because that is the penalty stated in the Code of Conduct of Staff of Osun State University.”

Apart from the member of the Governing Council, three other lecturers including two professors confirmed too that Ojoniyi had been sacked.

Meanwhile, the judgement was passed in accordance to Part II articles 15 and 23  of the Code of Conduct for Staff and Students of UniOsun which read:
“ An academic staff shall not conduct himself/ herself in relation to students in such a manner that derogates from his status as a lecturer, examiner and adviser. “An academic (member of) staff shall not demand from students any gratification whether in cash or in kind including sexual gratification in the discharge of his/her lawful duties. Breach of this code shall warrant appropriate sanction ranging from warning to termination of appointment depending on the gravity of the offence.”

I'm sure you'll be wondering how the video came about, while it is believed that the female student commandered the recording of the video.

Adding to the above, in pretense of watching a movie, Things fall Apart. The female student was recording the scene unknown to Ojoniyi. It was gathered that Ojoniyi was said to have been pressurizing Miss Ikwue for sex and she eventually agreed and followed him to their agreed place with a laptop computer with which the recording was made.

Ojoniyi had accused one of the lecturers of the university, who was recently dismissed for an alleged misconduct as the person behind the drama. According to him, the lady was contracted to blackmail him. But Ojoniyi did not deny being the one in the video.

It would also interest you to know that, a professor at the university recently resigned his appointment over the alleged rape of a female student in his office.

In addition to the above, some lecturers and students of the university added that the professor knew that he would be sacked if the case was investigated and he hurriedly resigned to prevent the embarrassment which would follow.

That's an interesting story right?. While, you shouldn't digest this alone, spread the story dear and keep in touch for more interesting updates. Bye for now!.

15 years presumed to have died suddenly woke up as
she was about to be interred at the Warri Cemetery.

The girl, whose name could not be ascertained at press
time, was said to have died about 5a.m. yesterday and
was wrapped in a mat and placed on top of the soak

Police dismiss, arraign killer cop family buries undergraduate victim

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed
Sergeant Collins Idom, who allegedly shot dead an
undergraduate of a polytechnic in Edo State, Joseph
Eidonojie-Ugbeni.
Idom had spent 14 years in the Nigeria Police Force
before his dismissal.
He was arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief
Magistrate’s Court on Monday, the same day the
victim was buried at the Atan Cemetery, Yaba.
PUNCH Metro had reported that the 20-year-old
business administration student was on a visit to
his cousin, Friday Ojah, who lived on Alape Street,
Iba Ojo area.
It was reported that operatives of the Special Anti-
Robbery Squad were chasing a suspected internet
fraudster, identified as Badoo, who had parked his
car and fled upon sighting the officers.
They were said to have started shooting
sporadically while chasing Badoo .
The Esan, Edo State indigene, who had reportedly
gone out to buy a canned drink with his cousin,
was reportedly hit by a bullet and he died on the
spot.
Our correspondent was told that the SARS
operatives took Joseph’s corpse and put in the
boot of the car of the suspected fraudster and
drove off.
After PUNCH Metro reported the incident on
September 23, the police arrested, detained and
dismissed the killer cop after an orderly room trial
at the state command headquarters, Ikeja.
He was subsequently arraigned on Monday for
murder, along with three suspected cult members.
The charge read in part, “That you, Collins Idom, on
September 19, 2016, at about 09.30am, at Iba Town,
Iba, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did kill
one Joseph Ugbeni, by shooting him with a gun on
his head, thereby committing an offence punishable
under Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos
State, Nigeria, 2011.”
The police, in a remand application brought before
the court, said Idom confessed to the crime and
was identified by witnesses, adding that there was
no need for further investigation.
His plea was not taken for the crime.
The Chief Magistrate, A.O. Awogboro, ordered his
remand in prison pending legal advice from the
Directorate of Public Prosecutions. She admitted
the three suspected cult members to bail in the
sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till November 10, 2016.
Meanwhile, there was a confrontation between
mourners and some policemen at the Mainland
Hospital mortuary where Joseph’s corpse was
deposited.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Joseph’s family were
about removing the corpse for burial when a team
of policemen, who had brought another corpse to
the mortuary, were challenged by the family.
A source said, “Although the policemen came for a
different mission, the mourners abused them for the
killing of Joseph. They were close to assaulting the
officers but for the intervention of some elderly
members of the family.”
Tears flowed when the hearse bearing the corpse
arrived at the Atan cemetery around 2pm, as family
and friends bid the victim farewell.
His father, Patrick, called for a quick trial of the
dismissed cop, saying only justice would assuage
the hurt of the family.
“The Lagos CP gave me N500,000 for the burial of
my son and for that, I am grateful. The Officer-in-
Charge of SARS also gave us some money. But we
need speedy judgement. They should not cover up
the case, because that will only increase our hurt,”
he said.
The family lawyer, Saidi Sanni, said the family
would demand the payment of N500m as damages
from the police.
“We will institute an action at the Federal High
Court to enforce the deceased’s rights. We will be
suing the Inspector-General of Police for N500m
damages. The boy could have grown up to become
somebody of repute in the society, so his life is
invaluable,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo
Badmos, who offered condolences to the family,
said the police would not condone extra-judicial
killings.
She said, “As a command, we have respect for
human rights. We will not tolerate a situation where
a police officer will use his position to torment any
member of the public. The Inspector-General of
Police has ordered that any policeman involved in
extra-judicial killing should face the consequence.”

‘Arase Kept 24 Police Vehicles for Personal Use’ – Idris Accused His Boss

The acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has accused his former boss, Solomon Arase of failing to return 24 police vehicles after he retired from office.

Idris also claimed that the seven Deputy Inspectors General of Police, who were recently retired also left with at least seven to eight police vehicles each, the Punch is reporting.

Idris told journalists in Abuja on Sunday that the 24 vehicles allegedly taken by Arase included 2 bulletproof BMW 7 series cars.

He said he has therefore set up a Special Investigative panel to probe the number of police vehicles purchased in the last three years to ascertain how they were distributed.

He said he has also written his predecessor and the other recently retired officers to return the vehicles in their possession.
“So, what I am telling you is that I have signed a directive to my SIP (I have a special investigation panel, I set it up). It is going to investigate all the vehicle purchases, contributions to the police and the distribution of those vehicles in the last three years; we are going to look into that.“When I took over, there was no vehicle, even the vehicle I would use. I discovered the last IG went away with 24 vehicles; the DIGs, some of them eight, some of them seven. The IG’s vehicles included two BMW 7 series, one armoured; and he left me with an old car.“The last time I followed the President with it, he was asking me, ‘what are you doing with this old car’ because if you see the headlight, the thing has changed colour, which means they parked it and rains and everything had fallen on it, but the new ones that were bought, he (Arase) went with all ofthem; they are part of the 24.

“I wrote back to him and said, we have a policy that says when a policeman retires, if you are an IG, AIG, a CP, you are entitled to some vehicles; please, the extra, return it. Four vehicles are enough for an average human being, but what will you even do with four vehicles; but he took 24 vehicles, including two BMW cars.“I wrote to him (Arase), I wrote to the DIGs.”However, Arase, has denied the allegations saying he should stop what he termed as a malicious media propaganda and focus on tackling the security challenges in the country. He said, “What am I going to do with 24 cars? Do I want to open a car shop? This is a malicious accusation. There are ways of verifying issues rather than engaging in media propaganda.”
